Advanced Technology: Tools for Better Clinical Outcomes

Frankfort Regional Medical Center invests millions of dollars each year to ensure that our caregivers have advanced and innovative technology to diagnose and treat even the most complex medical conditions. Here's a sampling of the technology available in our Frankfort market.

  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) - 1.5 Tesla field-strength MRI provides superb image quality for a complete range of clinical applications, including neurology, orthopedics, body imaging, angiography, cardiology, breast imaging,  and oncology.  The 1.5T MRI reduces exam times, and it's ultra-short bore alleviates the concerns of many claustrophobic patients.

  • PACS (Picture Archiving & Communication System) - A system for electronically storing, manipulating, retrieving and sending diagnostic image scans and reports to workstations in the emergency department, operating room, patient floors and physician offices.

  • The 16-slice LightSpeed CT - A non-invasive technology that captures images of entire anatomic regions in seconds. These top-quality images combine into a three-dimensional view of the patient's anatomy to assist in faster, more accurate diagnoses. Exceptional scan speeds mean faster, easier and more comfortable exams.

  • Siemens AXIOM Artis FC Cardiac Imaging System - A technologically advanced system that quickly provides physicians with high-quality images, leading to faster, more accurate diagnosis and effective treatment for patients. The AXIOM system is specially designed to combine the lowest possible radiation dose with the highest image quality. Its Tempur-Pedic® mattress molds itself to any body shape, eliminating pressure points that could cause pain during procedures.

  • Alaris IV Pumps - Touted as the most powerful safety advance in IV drug administration, the Alaris “smart pump” system and Guardrails Suite help protect against harm at the point of infusion delivery, help prevent errors on critical drugs, help protect against patient harm and promote hospital best-practices guidelines customized by care area.  The “smart pump” system is a fail-safe dosage system, acting as an assistant to nurses and clinicians that administer IV medications at the point of care. A computer will warn the nurse or doctor if an IV infusion falls out of set dosage and infusion-rate parameters, thus preventing a wrong dose from being administered to the patient.

  • electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR) -  A technology which is part of our core pharmacy information system where all aspects about our patients medication orders are recorded. eMAR reduces medication errors through use of bar code identifiers on the patient armband and medication. Frankfort Regional is part of only a small percentage of hospitals nationwide that have bar coding medication administration.

  • electronic Provider Order Management (ePOM) -  A seamless, computer-based method for ordering which eliminates handwriting and other human errors. To use it, the physician enters the medication order directly into a computer, which double-checks the drug name and dosage amount. It also checks for duplicate orders and the patient's medical history, in order to prevent harmful drug interactions and eliminate administering a drug the person is allergic to. ePOM increases the efficiency in the time between an order being placed and its fulfillment. The order is communicated to the department required to perform the service in only three minutes.

  • OmniCell OmniRx® Automated Dispensing Unit (ADU) -  A system used to store, dispense, charge and account for controlled substances, PRN medications, and certain routine medications used in patient care. The hospital’s central pharmacy stocks the cabinets, and nurses access medications from the cabinets prior to administration of the medications to patients. Automated medication dispensing cabinets are a standard of care, used by over 70 percent of U.S. hospitals, according to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Omnicell’s systems provide healthcare facilities with advanced, flexible systems for the management of medications in the hospital’s nursing unit, helping the facility ensure patient safety, monitor and control medication dispensing, comply with Joint Commission and regulatory standards, improve clinical decision-making, and ultimately improve patient care.

  • Mammography Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) System - ImageChecker® system is the first FDA approved CAD system for use with screening and diagnostic, as well as digital mammography. The ImageChecker system acts like a “spell-checker” for medical images, performing over one billion calculations per film. It is designed to assist radiologists in reducing the number of false-negative readings by drawing attention to areas that warrant a second review. The resulting reduction in observational oversights aids radiologists with earlier detection of breast cancers.

  • Vivid 7 Dimension Cardiovascular Ultrasound System - State-of-the-art system gives clinicians fully integrated real-time 4D and multi-dimensional imaging capabilities. The increased capabilities of the Vivid 7 Dimension can help physicians better manage their cardiovascular patients and enhance their diagnostic confidence. Vivid 7 Dimension brings new echocardiography acquisition, reconstruction and analysis techniques that allow physicians to view images in multiple planes simultaneously. This imaging provides clinicians with new tools for detecting and diagnosing heart conditions such as heart failure in patients.
